Open letter from public health clinicians, researchers, and academics regarding Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill

“To His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda………”

As part of efforts to fight the Anti Homosexuality Bill in Uganda, and to respond to recent debates by the President and other politicians in Uganda regarding the science and evidence around sexual orientation, Ugandan advocates have asked for solidarity from the international community in describing what the science says regarding LGBT sexual orientations and regarding the likely public health impact of the Bill.

 

Press Release: The Civil Society Coalition on Human Rights and Constitutional Law speaks out against the anti homosexuality bill

On December 20, 2013, Parliament passed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill into law, and submitted it to the President for assent.
The Civil Society Coalition on Human Rights and Constitutional Law unequivocally condemns the actions of Parliament in this regard, and in particular the fact that the basic rules of procedure of the institution—including the necessity for a quorum and prior inclusion of the Bill on the Order Paper—were not followed.
 

Press Release: NCHRD-UG Concerns Over the Anti Homosexuality Bill

The National Coalition for Human Rights Defenders Uganda (NCHRDU) with deep concern regrets the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009 into law on the 20th December 2013.  The Bill violates the rights of sexual minorities and defenders working to create an enabling environment for Human Rights Defenders to continue doing their work of promoting and protecting human rights.
